It’s the faith that you have in your own abilities, qualities, and judgment.  It’s really important, as life can be tough and we often need to make many difficult decisions. How we think and feel about ourselves can have a huge impact on how we function in our day to day lives. When you lack confidence in yourself, you constantly doubt everything and will often only pursue things if you get lots of reassurance from others. That’s no way to lead your life.

Apart from the fact that your lack of self-belief will constantly hold you back at every turn, other people have different tastes, styles, and beliefs to you, so their opinions might not be the best anyway, especially if you have an original or unique idea. Don’t get me wrong. Support from friends and family is great but you still need to have the confidence to make decisions yourself.

There are decisions to be made regarding finances, relationships, family, careers, home, health, and hobbies. Having the confidence in yourself to make good decisions is the difference between plowing ahead and creating a life you enjoy or not.

We need the self-confidence to be successful. Confidence enables us to overcome challenges and obstacles. It helps us to stand up for ourselves and be able to insist something does or does not happen. It gives us faith in ourselves that we are capable of learning new things, making changes or improving our skills. Self-confidence can be the catalyst for liberating us from mundane, oppressive or disheartening existence.

Don’t let fear, doubt and lack of confidence hold you back from pursuing your dreams. Do something about it. There are ways to improve self-confidence.  In fact, anyone can learn how to increase self-confidence.

The Past Does Not Equal The Future

From the time you were born, your environment, the people around you and those who you have encountered throughout your life have influenced your thoughts and development.

For some people, this has been a very positive experience and they’ve developed into confident, assertive individuals. At the other extreme is a life filled with adverse conditions and experiences which can have unfavorable implications on a person’s psyche.

Thankfully, confidence is a quality that can be developed through desire, education, and action. One of my favorite Tony Robbin’s quotes is “The past does not equal the future”. Just because you have lacked self-confidence in the past, does not mean you will lack self-confidence in the future. You have the power to change it.

There are many ways to improve self-confidence. Here are 10 tips to help you.  The key is to be prepared to try new things and don’t give up at the first hurdle.

Tip 1: Don’t procrastinate. Conquering low self-confidence should be your chief priority. You need to commit to resolving this problem now so you can have a happy, successful life.

Tip 2: Change your attitude to a positive ‘can do’ attitude. When you have the right attitude, things will begin to change for you.

Tip 4: Understand that education is a life-long journey. There’s always something new we can learn and improve on, no matter how old we are. Learning to be confident can take time but it’s life-changing and worth the time and discomfort as you move out of your comfort zone.

Tip 5: Learn everything you can about boosting your self-confidence and apply it. Read books and articles, take courses, watch YouTube videos, get ideas and advice from confident friends and colleagues. Set small goals for yourself and celebrate every small success.

Tip 6: Open your mind and become self-aware. Learn all you can about yourself. The more you understand yourself the more you will know what you need.

Tip 7: Be tenacious. Apply yourself consistently and persistently and don’t give up. Set bigger and bolder goals as your confidence begins to grow.

Tip 8: Eliminate all the negative influences in your life that hamper your progress- limiting beliefs, critical friends and family, anything that dampens your enthusiasm, motivation, and action.

Tip 9: Arm yourself with tools that can help you to alleviate anxiety and fear such as Meditation, Visualization, Self Hypnosis and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique).  EFT is a gentle tapping technique (instead of needles) that stimulates the traditional Chinese acupuncture points.     These are GREAT tips. I have always been a pretty self confident person. Recently I lost two things: my hearing and my hair (from the prescription for my hearing). This changed things for me dramatically. I went from the very confident up beat person I was to well, just pretty depressed and and self conscious. It has been a long road and I have already started using some of the tips you have listed. Others I am going to try. I am a whole new me now, and accepting the new me is a process for sure.

    I definitely agree with tip 4. Learning is infinite. I have sort of struggled with self-confidence long ago but I’ve been able to change my attitude and remove negative influences from my life little by little.
